Newark, NJ - [August 1, 2024] - Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) announces that Tenisha Malcolm-Wint has been appointed Leadership Center
Director. In this pivotal role, Malcolm-Wint will manage GSHNJ’s Leadership Center in Newark, which is currently under construction and will soon be a vibrant hub for community engagement and youth development across the entire council area.
Ms. Malcolm-Wint's responsibilities will encompass ensuring the effective utilization of the facility, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and collaborating with the Newark community to develop high-quality programs for Girl Scouts aged 5-17 throughout GSHNJ’s council footprint. Malcolm-Wint will work closely with GSHNJ leadership to ensure these programs support the Girl Scouts’ mission and contribute to strategic philanthropy. Additionally, she will develop new strategies for youth programming, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within the Girl Scouts to give girls access to life-changing experiences that inspire them to do something big.

Tenisha Malcolm-Wint Joins GSHNJ...2
Ms. Malcolm-Wint has an impressive career full of impactful roles, all underlined by a passion for supporting communities. Prior to joining GSHNJ, she served as Director of the Urban Mayors Policy Center at the John S. Watson Institute for Urban Policy and Research at Kean University, where she led efforts to assist members of the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association in finding solutions for various issues facing urban centers.
Before joining the Watson Institute, Ms. Malcolm-Wint worked with various national and community-based nonprofits, leading innovative programs, successful fundraising campaigns, and strategic initiatives. Her commitment to social causes extends beyond her professional work; she is an active board member for several organizations, including New Jersey Future, Urban Agriculture Cooperative, Boys & Girls Club of Union County, Outdoor Equity Alliance, National Association of Double Dutch Organizations, and New Jersey School of Conservation.
Ms. Malcolm-Wint holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bloomfield College and is currently pursuing her Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Nonprofit Leadership at Kean University. Additionally, she has earned a Professional Certificate in Creative Placemaking from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Outside of work, Ms. Malcolm-Wint enjoys leading hikes with Outdoors On Purpose, a hiking community she founded to promote nature exploration and rejuvenation, especially among Black and Brown individuals.
About the Girl Scout Heart of New Jersey Leadership Center in Newark:
The Girl Scout Leadership Center (GSLC) in Newark, located at 375 McCarter Highway, is currently under construction and will span 5,436 square feet. This vibrant hub will serve 13,000 Girl Scouts and 9,000 adult volunteers across the GSHNJ Council. It will offer a wide range of programs and services designed to support girls aged 5-18, enhancing their mental, emotional, and physical health. By focusing on skill-building, education, action, and holistic well-being, the GSLC aims to fulfill GSHNJ's mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. At its core, this Leadership Center will foster an inclusive environment where every girl feels accepted and valued. Diversity and fairness will be central to every decision, program, partnership, and initiative, ensuring that each girl's personal development is recognized. The center, slated to open later this year, will feature program and retail spaces, kitchen facilities, self-contained parking, and 24/7 security.
