This summer, Girl Scouts brought their favorite stuffed friends to Camp DeWitt for an adventure with a special purpose.
During GSHNJ’s Stuffed Animal Campout, Girl Scouts enjoyed an afternoon of games, crafts, outdoor fun, hot dogs, and s’mores before leaving their own stuffies behind for a week-long camp adventure. As part of the event, participating Girl Scouts and local troops also came together for an act of service, collecting stuffed animals to donate to children and families in need.
Through their generosity, more than 250 stuffed animal companions were collected and donated to Furniture Assist in Springfield, New Jersey, where they will help bring comfort and smiles to children and families facing challenging circumstances.
The collection is one example of how Girl Scouts make a positive impact in their communities through service and kindness. By donating these stuffed animals, GSHNJ troops helped provide children served through Furniture Assist’s partner agencies with something comforting to call their own, while reminding families rebuilding their lives that they are supported by a caring community.
For more than 20 years, Furniture Assist has helped families throughout northern New Jersey by providing furniture and other essential household items. The nonprofit currently partners with more than 125 government and social service agencies and serves more than 1,000 families annually.
