For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Sam Lewis set out to make a lasting difference in their community by supporting the Holy Trinity Food Pantry—a local organization she has volunteered with for years.
Recognizing a need to improve awareness and donations, Sam developed a website to communicate the pantry’s most needed items, educated local Girl Scout troops on how they could help, and increased community engagement around food insecurity.
“Being a Girl Scout has allowed me to be involved in my community more than I ever would have had the opportunity or motivation to do otherwise,” shared Sam, who’s also spent years growing through Girl Scouts as a camper and staff member at Camp Hoover.
Sam’s project has long-term impact: the website they built continues to inform and guide donations, and their outreach recruited new volunteers to the pantry. Thanks to their leadership, their town is more connected, more generous, and better informed about food insecurity—and how to help.
Congratulations, Sam, on earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting!
