Girl Scout Ambassador Neha Tolpadi has taken her love for storytelling and turned it into a powerful platform for change through her Girl Scout Gold Award project, She Did That.
Recognizing the lack of empowering female role models in children’s literature, Neha set out to expand access to stories that uplift, inspire, and reflect the strength of girls. She didn’t just curate books—she wrote one of her own. Her original children’s book focuses on themes of girl-power, gender equity, and environmentalism, giving young readers a new kind of hero to look up to.
To bring her project to life, Neha hosted inclusive read-aloud sessions at her local library and elementary school. As the book’s message unfolded, attendees engaged in hands-on activities that deepened the impact of the story and sparked meaningful conversations.
“I was inspired to start this journey after my own experiences as a young reader, who struggled to find role models in the stories she read,” said Neha. ”
But Neha’s project doesn’t end there. To ensure its sustainability, she partnered with her high school’s Days for Girls club, which will continue hosting semi-annual read-alouds at the local library—extending her message to future generations.
Neha embodies what it means to be a Girl Scout: taking initiative, leading with empathy, and creating lasting change in her community.
Congratulations, Neha, on earning the Girl Scout Gold Award and using your voice to lift others!
