Marcella Junkroft’s Gold Award project focused on preserving and continuing the legacy of Girl Scouting within her school and church community. Witnessing a decline in care and continuity of shared Girl Scout resources, Marcella was inspired to take action. She conducted interviews with past Girl Scouts, collected historical artifacts, and documented events to create a comprehensive digital archive. This archive, along with a physical collection of flags and supplies, ensures that future generations of Girl Scouts and leaders can access and build upon the rich history of their community.
Marcella also organized a recruitment event for pre-k girls, sparking interest in the next generation of Girl Scouts. Her efforts have not only preserved the past but also paved the way for the future, ensuring that Girl Scouting remains a vibrant and cherished tradition in her community.
Being a Girl Scout has always been significant to Marcella, providing her with a sense of belonging and the opportunity to make lasting memories. From camping trips to earning the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards, Girl Scouting has instilled in her a passion for service and a commitment to making the world a better place.
To ensure sustainability, Marcella implemented a system where the oldest troop each year maintains the archive. The church rectory staff also holds duplicate keys and passwords, ensuring reliable access and preservation of the project. Marcella’s dedication has created a lasting impact, preserving the legacy of Girl Scouting for future generations.
