Hannah Plummer’s Gold Award project has brought a unique and inclusive sport to her community—archery. Inspired by her own love for the sport, which began at age six through Girl Scouts, Hannah launched a USA Archery program at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA. Working alongside her team, she raised funds for equipment, trained staff, and introduced over 80 participants to the sport through workshops and classes.
Archery, which promotes focus, mental well-being, teamwork, and family connections, was missing in Hannah's community. Seeing this gap, she set out to provide a program that would foster a passion for the sport among kids and adults alike. "Archery is an all-inclusive sport," Hannah explained, "and I wanted to share that joy with others."
Since the program’s launch, classes have been so popular that additional sessions were added to meet growing demand. Both new and repeat archers continue to fill the classes, underscoring the success of the initiative.
Looking to the future, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA has committed to funding the archery program for 2025 and beyond. This commitment, along with trained staff certified through USA Archery, ensures that the program will remain a lasting part of the YMCA’s offerings.
Hannah's project has made a significant impact, not just by introducing a new sport, but by building connections within the community and fostering teamwork and focus through archery. “Being a Girl Scout is about being adventurous, being kind to my community, and sharing the joy I find in things like archery with others,” said Hannah.
Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey congratulates Hannah Plummer on her outstanding achievement and her dedication to bringing the joy of archery to her community.
