Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey Welcomes Della M. Walker Jr. as New 2nd Vice Chair
Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) is excited to announce the appointment of Della M. Walker Jr. as the new 2nd Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. Della is a visionary leader with over twenty years of experience in workforce development, operations, business development, training, coaching, and external relations.
Della is a renowned operational and executive strategist who has successfully driven citywide systems change in economic opportunities and workforce development through strong private-public partnerships. Her extensive expertise includes operational excellence, program design for impact, process improvement, negotiations, and strategic planning.
Over the past five years, Della has significantly contributed to Newark’s workforce ecosystem, creating a sustainable, well-funded, collaborative, and effective cradle-to-career pipeline for Greater Newark residents. She has led initiatives such as the Newark Alliance’s Human Resource Roundtable, Northern NJ Prologis Community Workforce Initiative, and the NJ DOL Healthcare Industry Partnership. Della’s efforts have promoted equitable hiring practices and created cultural shifts toward more inclusive workplaces.
Before founding The Work Effect consulting agency, Della held various leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer/EVP of Programs and interim CEO of the Newark Alliance. She launched training programs with PSEG, Rising Tide Capital-Returning Citizens, NJMEP, Essex County College, and Clara Maass Medical Center. Della is also a proud Aspen Institute Job Quality Fellow, Leadership Newark Alumna, and Newark-based entrepreneur.
Della’s commitment to the upliftment of underserved communities, particularly in black and brown cities, is deeply rooted in her Newark, NJ, upbringing. Her most valued work includes her volunteerism in the Greater Newark area, a passion she has passed down to her nine chosen biological children.
