Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey is proud to celebrate Corrina Gapp, a 12-year Girl Scout, Gold Award Girl Scout, and Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey’s 2026 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship recipient.
For her Gold Award project, Corrina used her lifelong love of dance to help create more inclusive opportunities for children with special needs. After recognizing that many children with special needs lack access to structured dance programs, Corrina set out to design a project that would make movement, creativity, and self-expression more accessible.
Dance has played a meaningful role in Corrina’s own life. It has shaped who she is and given her a safe place to be creative. Inspired by that experience, she wanted other children to feel the same sense of freedom, confidence, and joy that dance has given her.
To bring her project to life, Corrina partnered with a professional dance therapist and special needs educators to develop a dance curriculum tailored for children with special needs. She also collaborated with her church’s videography team to produce instructional videos that demonstrate movement exercises and prompts. These videos were then implemented into Liquid Church’s respite care program, helping provide children with structured, accessible dance activities designed to support movement, creativity, and confidence.
Corrina’s project addressed an important need by creating a resource that can continue to be used beyond her direct involvement. By combining research, collaboration, creativity, and community partnership, she helped expand access to an activity that can support emotional regulation, motor skills, self-expression, and confidence.
When reflecting on what Girl Scouts means to her, Corrina shared that being a Girl Scout means having not only bright ideas and strong opinions, but also a space, platform, and community to share them. It means knowing there is always someone looking out for you, ready and willing to support you and help you succeed.
Corrina’s Gold Award project is a powerful example of what happens when a Girl Scout turns her passion into purpose. Through her leadership, she created a meaningful resource for children with special needs and helped make the joy of dance more accessible to others.
Congratulations, Corrina, on earning your Gold Award and being named Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey’s 2026 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship recipient. We are so proud of your leadership, compassion, creativity, and commitment to making the world a better place.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout can earn, recognizing girls in grades 9–12 who identify an issue they care about, address its root causes, and lead a sustainable project that creates lasting change in their community and beyond. Corrina’s achievement is especially meaningful because she was also selected as Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey’s 2026 GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship recipient. This national scholarship recognizes one outstanding Gold Award Girl Scout from each council whose project demonstrates extraordinary leadership, measurable and sustainable impact, and a commitment to addressing an issue with national or global significance.
