Aaria Nadar’s Girl Scout Gold Award project is making local history more accessible for the New Providence community. Through her initiative, Aaria created an interactive website for the New Providence Historical Society that organizes the town’s records stored in the Mason Room, allowing people to explore New Providence’s rich 300-year-old history in an engaging, user-friendly format.
The project was inspired by Aaria’s desire to make historical records more appealing to younger generations. Recognizing that the paper-based archives were not easily accessible, she aimed to bridge this gap by bringing these records online, creating a digital space where history enthusiasts of all ages can explore the past. To encourage the community to visit the website, Aaria placed QR codes at local spots, including the New Providence High School library, the Salt Box Museum, and the Mason Room, making it easy for people to connect with the history of their town.
Aaria ensured the project’s sustainability by working with the New Providence Historical Society to train them on how to update and maintain the website. In addition, she has provided resources for the society to keep the content current, preserving her work and expanding its value to the community.
For Aaria, being a Girl Scout has been about taking on leadership roles and making positive contributions to her community. She expressed that her experience with the Gold Award taught her the value of service, responsibility, and teamwork, allowing her to gain confidence and skills that will serve her well in the future.
Congratulations to Aaria on her accomplishment, and a heartfelt thank you for her efforts to help her community connect with its rich history!
