Chartered by Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey builds girls of courage, confidence, and character through caregivers, volunteers, and staff working together to deliver on our promise of giving Girl Scouts access to life-changing experiences that inspire them to do something big.
Girls & Families: Girl Scouting begins at home where caregivers provide support, access, and commitment to a Girl Scout Leadership Experience specially curated to spark your Girl Scout’s unique talents, passions, and interests—solo or in a troop. We’re ready to embrace anyone ages 5-17 on the spectrum of gender identity who are not cisgender boys, regardless of abilities, family structure, race, ethnicity, political persuasion, socio-economic standing, sexual orientation, or demographic. Ready to get started crafting your own Girl Scout journey? Start here.
Troops: Girl Scout troops provide the friendship young people need to help them learn to believe in themselves, take the lead, and spark their imagination. Troops are hosted in schools, community centers, places of worship, neighborhoods, and anywhere kids gather. Led by at least two adult mentors, one of whom must identify as a woman, troops are generally organized by grade level from K-12 and our programs and resources progress as Girl Scouts grow and develop. Looking for a troop in your area? Start here.
Service Units: Girl Scout service units provide local support and day-to-day inspiration to troop leaders and individually registered members in defined geographic communities. GSHNJ’s seven counties are divided into 61 service units, each managed locally by a team of adult volunteers who are leaders and influencers in their communities.
Staff: GSHNJ employs roughly 40 full-time, year-round staff members who provide administrative expertise, training, and inspiration to volunteers delivering the GSLE in our communities. Staff also assist in forming new troops and placing Girl Scouts, care for our properties, form strategic partnerships with community partners and supporters, and curate unique experiential programs and events across our service area. In the summer, our ranks swell to hundreds as we deliver amazing summer camp experiences to thousands of Girl Scouts at our three camps. Considering a career in Girl Scouting? Start here.
Governance: GSHNJ is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by delegates representing our membership. The GSHNJ Board reflects our strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and includes some of the most talented and influential change makers in the Heart of New Jersey region. The Board provides insight on financial and policy-related issues and help make our mission come to life every day. Meet our Leadership.
