Lily Coniglio’s Healing Through Music project demonstrates the powerful role music can play in emotional healing, especially for children in hospitals. After the COVID-19 pandemic limited entertainment opportunities in healthcare settings, Lily took action. She partnered with local hospitals, playing piano and flute for patients, families, and staff, using music as a way to lift spirits. Her repertoire included Disney, pop, and holiday songs, bringing smiles to those going through difficult times.
Beyond her live performances, Lily wrote and illustrated a children's book on the benefits of music. This book, now in hospital libraries, educates young readers about how music can ease stress and create connections. She also created over 50 music videos on YouTube, expanding her project’s reach far beyond the hospitals. These videos are available for children to watch anytime they need a comforting distraction. Additionally, Lily presented her work at a YMCA Youth and Government Conference, inspiring others to take action in their communities.
Lily’s passion for music stems from her own experiences. She recalls playing piano for her great-grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s, and the joy it brought her. Similarly, a musical visit during a childhood hospital stay inspired her to give back. As a long-time Girl Scout, Lily has completed her Bronze and Silver Awards, which allowed her to make a positive impact in her community. The Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, encourages girls to create sustainable projects that make lasting differences. Lily’s project is sustainable through her book in hospitals, her YouTube channel, and the involvement of her school and community in continuing the effort.
Her commitment to bringing happiness and relief to others through music is truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of Lily’s accomplishments and are excited to see how her project continues to benefit children for years to come. Congratulations, Lily!
