Patch Programs

If you can dream it, you can do it—Patch Programs for Girl Scouts of all ages.

Girl Scouts love to earn badges and Journey awards they can display on their uniforms. But that’s not all, there are patches too! You may already know that patches can celebrate a troop activity like a trip to the skating rink or a visit to town hall. Girl Scouts can also earn patches by completing programs unique to GSHNJ, all of which are listed below. Click on the patch name to find more information and the patch booklet.

These patch programs are available for Girl Scouts from any council and can be completed individually, with family, or with your troop. Upon completion, patches can be purchased at any of GSHNJ’s council shops.

Be a Better Sister toggle arrow

Be a Better Sister: Diversity

Created in sisterhood with the Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast

At Girl Scouts we build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. We are committed to empowering girls to speak out and stand up against racial injustice and all other forms of discrimination. Using the tools of education and empathy, we aim to unite girls across the country to find shared experiences and celebrate different backgrounds. Through these actions, we can all aspire to Be a Better Sister!

Upon completion, buy your patch in the council shop and wear it on the back of your uniform.

Environmental Warrior Patch Series and online self-guided curriculum toggle arrow

Become an Environmental Warrior!

Ready to make a real difference for our planet? The Environmental Warrior Fun Patch Series is your chance to do just that, using the power of STEM! This program, made possible by the New Jersey STEM Grant, is all about showing how science, technology, engineering, and math can help solve some of the world's biggest environmental challenges.

You can earn the core Environmental Warrior patch and collect five special "rocker" patches, each focused on a different area:

Ecosystems, Citizen Science, Climate, Microenvironment, and Watershed. Dive into topics like climate change, pollution, and biodiversity.

You can participate in a program led by the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey or one of our amazing partners, or you can complete the self-guided curriculum with your troop. Once you've completed a rocker program, you can get your patches at a Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey retail shop. Show off your accomplishments by sewing the patches on your vest or sash and watch your collection grow as you bridge to new levels!

Learn all about this exciting new patch series by clicking here.

Ericsson 5G IoT Patch

This patch program includes activites that will introduce Girl Scouts to 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT). Each topic has options to Engage, Explore, and Explain 5G and IoT. Girl Scouts can do more or modify the activities to adapt to their skills levels as needed.

Food Allergy Advocates toggle arrow

Food Allergy Advocates

Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) has partnered with GSHNJ to offer the Food Allergy Awareness Patch Program. FARE is the world's leading food allergy advocacy organization and the largest private funder of food allergy research. The Food Allergy Awareness Patch Program requirements give Girl Scouts the opportunity to learn about life with food allergies, with an emphasis on raising awareness of the public health issues, which impacts 32 million children and adults in the United States.

Fidelity Investments Know It! Grow It! toggle arrow

Fidelity Investments Know It! Grow It!

Every girl knows that making wise decisions, especially when it comes to money, is important. As future leaders, entrepreneurs, and contributors to our community it’s important to know what it takes to make the most of your money.

The Fidelity Investments “Know It! Grow It!” Investment Patch Program introduces Girl Scouts to concepts that will help girls develop the skills and confidence to invest in themselves and the world around them. This patch program can serve as a toolkit to increase girls’ abilities to understand and effectively use various financial skills as they work through the Fall Product Program, Cookie Program, and outside money-earners for their troops and service units. When girls complete the first round of product program requirements, they receive a Fidelity Investments “Know it! Grow It!” patch and the appropriate money-earner patch based on what they’ve completed. The best part is that you can use this patch program for each fundraising program you choose to do during the year.

Hearts of Service toggle arrow

Hearts of Service

The  Hearts of Service program tracks and recognizes service hours that girls at all grade levels perform as Girl Scouts. This is an optional program and may be completed as an individual or as a troop, though girls individually track their hours and individually earn their Hearts of Service awards.

Here's How It Works:

  1. Get the center patch! Rack up service hours as an individual or with your troop and submit them using our online form.
  2. Remember, these hours don't count toward the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Awards, or Take Action projects. You also can't apply time spent performing service or raising money for another organization.
  3. Once you've submitted enough hours, get more patches! Start with your level rocker, then add another heart for every five additional hours.
  4. Hearts of Service patches interlock like a puzzle as you grow. If you miss a piece, you can buy blank rockers to fill in. If you level up, you can either transfer them to your new uniform, or buy new ones.

Important Info:

  1. Hearts of Service hours may not be double-counted towards other leadership or high award opportunities like the Service Bars, Torch Awards, or Highest Awards (Bronze, Silver, and Gold).
  2. Leaders, parents or girls keep track of all service performed by the girls.  Do not stop recording service hours after a girl earns the required number of hours for her level.  Her record should reflect all of her service time throughout the Girl Scout year so she may continue earning heart segments.
  3. When the required service hours are earned in the membership year use this form to report the hours.
  4. You will receive an email confirmation upon submission, which you may print, sign and bring to any GSHNJ council shop to purchase the recognitions.

Screen Smart toggle arrow

Screen Smart

Smartphones, tablets, video games and computers are all technology devices, or “screens.” Today, screens are a bigger part of our lives than they ever were before and it’s helpful to think and learn about how much screen time is healthy and useful in our lives--and practice making smart choices about using screens. Upon completion, buy your patch in the council shop, and wear it on the back of your uniform.
