Registration Deadlines
Program registration closing dates are listed with each program description.  No additional registrations or changes may be made after the closing date, so please plan carefully.  See below for GSHNJ Program Cancellation and Refund Policies.

Safety Requirements

No Girl Scout may attend any program alone; she must always be accompanied by an adult chaperone as indicated by the Adult Policy in the program description (see below).  Chaperones are required to remain at the program for the duration of the event. Please refer to Adult-to-Girl Supervision Ratio for the appropriate ratio for your Girl Scout troop/group.

All adults participating in overnight programs with girls must be registered and are required to have completed the volunteer application process and passed the background check.

Adult Policies
Safety activity checkpoint ratios only.  Please no additional adults.

  • Only the girls and adults registered for these programs may attend.  All girls must have an active Girl Scout membership.
  • Register only enough adult chaperones to fulfill the minimum girl/adult safety ratios.  Extra adults cannot be accommodated as they reduce the number of girl participants.
  • Tagalongs (siblings and other non-member girls) are not permitted at these programs.  Please make arrangements to leave other children at home.  Non-member girls may register for Girl Scout membership and then register for the program.

Families welcome

  • Everyone is welcome to attend these programs with a girl who has an active Girl Scout membership:  adults and siblings of all genders, regardless of membership status.

Adult/child programs

  • These programs are for girls with active Girl Scout memberships and one adult of the indicated gender.  The same adult may accompany siblings as necessary.
  • Tagalongs (siblings and other non-member girls) are not permitted at these programs.  Please make arrangements to leave other children at home.  Non-member girls may register for Girl Scout membership and then register for the program.

All adults welcome

  • Any number of adults may attend these programs. They are not limited by the minimum girl/adult safety ratio.
  • Tagalongs (siblings and other non-member girls) are not permitted at these programs.  Please make arrangements to leave other children at home.  Non-member girls may register for Girl Scout membership and then register for the program.

Transportation
All participants are responsible for providing transportation to and from the programs unless otherwise noted in the description.

Program Capacity
Each program has a minimum and maximum capacity listed on the program description. If the minimum capacity of a program is not met, the program will be cancelled.

Programs are for registered Girl Scouts and their chaperones; please observe the girl/adult ratio indicated in the program listing.  Extra adults cannot be accommodated.

Unless otherwise advertised, tagalongs (siblings and other non-registered girls) are not permitted at programs. Non-registered girls are welcome to register for Girl Scout membership in advance and then submit a program registration form.

Cookie Credits
Cookie Credits are accepted for council programs as specified in the description.

Program Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • Once a troop or individual registers for a GSHNJ-run program, a refund will be issued only if:
    • The troop or individual cancels their registration prior to the registration closing date as indicated in the program listing.  No refunds will be issued after this deadline.  Refunds are not issued for “no shows” (registrants who do not attend).
    • GSHNJ cancels the event due to insufficient registration, inclement weather, or any other extenuating circumstance.
  • Full refunds will be issued for events that are cancelled by GSHNJ.
  • Should a troop or individual be unable to attend an event for which they have registered, a written request for refund (email or mail) must be received by the registration closing date as indicated in the program guide.  In this instance, refunds will be issued minus 10% of the original per girl or per adult fee, to cover administrative costs.  There will be no program credits or transfers issued.  Refunds are not issued for customer cancellations or reduction in group numbers after the registration closing date.
  • Programs/events conducted by other institutions have their own cancellation policies that GSHNJ cannot override. Refunds will be issued according to that institution’s policies.  Programs for which GSHNJ has hired outside facilitators and/or transportation companies (this includes all Broadway show trips) are non-refundable.
