Friday marks the start of National Girl Scout Cookie weekend, and the Girl Scouts of the USA are making the experience memorable by launching two new cookie flavors and offering the chance to win a year's supply of Girl Scout cookies.
The weekend and cookie sweepstakes celebrate the 97 th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookies and their popular Girl Scout Cookie program - considered the largest girl-led business in the world.
The program teaches girls five essential life skills: goal setting, money management, business ethics, decision making, and people skills.
Joining the ranks of beloved Girl Scout cookies such as Samoas/Caramel deLites, Thin Mints, and Trefoils, are Cranberry Citrus Crisps and Chocolate Chip Shortbread, the first gluten-free Girl Scout cookie. The Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookie is being offered in a limited pilot in 20 Girl Scout councils, the organization said.
The organization is inviting the public to vote to decide which of the Girl Scout cookies will win the gold in the Girl Scout Cookie Championship Giveaway. Participants will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a one-year supply of his or her favorite Girl Scout cookie.
To enter, each participant must do the all of the following: Follow @Girlscouts on Twitter; download the Official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app (available from iTunes or Google Play); use the app to "Meet the Cookies," and share his or her favorite Girl Scout cookie on Twitter via the Official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app.
Entry into the sweepstakes by voting starts on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 12:00 a.m. Eastern time and ends on February 28, 2014, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.
The Girl Scouts of the USA is a leadership organization for girls, with more than three million girl and adult members worldwide.
The organization was founded in 1912, and there are participants in 92 countries.
